Always measure your oil when you are cooking. The reason to do this is simple: You want to measure instead of just dumping the oil in the pan in order to keep track of how much you’re using. Doing this will make it easy for you to keep track of exactly how much oil is being used.

Try making your own dried tomatoes. Slice a large, ripened tomato in half-inch-thick slices. If you are using Roma tomatoes, slice them lengthwise into two pieces. Place on a cooling rack, cut-side up and lightly salt them. Place the cooling rack on a cookie sheet and dry in a 190 degree oven for up to 10 hours. Once done, you can store them in your freezer in plastic bags. Also, you can put those dried tomatoes straight into a jar or can filled with fresh herbs and olive oil. Dried tomatoes should be stored within the refrigerator and used within two weeks.

If you are serving a salad with a meal where you have guests, do not pour the salad dressing on the salad, keep it on the side. Some people love dressing in great huge globs, while others like a lighter taste. Some folks don’t like any dressing at all, (or are watching their weight) so leave the dressing of salads up to your guests. Also, try and include different types of dressings.

Before you begin to cook, you must make sure that your kitchen utensils are clean. Leftover food could really screw up your next dish. It could promote the spread of bacteria.

If you are cooking a roast and are short on time, make sure to leave the bone in. This will speed up cooking time substantially. The bone absorbs some of the heat and distributes it inside the meat and roaster. Once the roast has finished cooking, it is easy to go in there and remove the bone.

Keep those turkey leftovers after the big meal. Cut it up and freeze it in an airtight container. Turkey remains fresh up to three weeks after being frozen.

A wooden cutting board requires a certain amount of care. Wooden cutting boards can warp and split if they are exposed to heat and moisture or if they are stored in an excessively dry area. A wooden cutting board will be ruined if it is placed into water. Use an oil specifically formulated for cutting boards to restore and protect wooden boards. Before you use the board, make sure it is dry.

Six Months

There are a few ways to properly warm up tortillas. One option is to turn the oven to 350, and place the tortilla right on the rack, allowing it to get crispy. An additional option is to place the tortilla on the grill directly, straight above the flame. These methods can make your tortilla taste better.

New spices should be purchased every six months. A lot of people keep spices too long, which makes them not taste very good. If you do not think you will use all of the spice within six months, split it with a friend.

Use a meat thermometer to make sure that you are cooking your meats properly. Different types of meat have a certain internal temperature that is considered safe to eat. If meats are not properly cooked, any bacteria present can grow and could possibly make you very sick if not killed during the cooking process.

If you’re cooking in a nonstick pan, use a spatula made from nylon, rubber, or silicone. Hard utensils such as metal can scratch the nonstick coating which destroys the whole point, and it also could add the coating to cook into your food. Not only will that appear unappetizing, but it can be dangerous as well.

Blotting ground meats prior to preparing them is advisable. It’s never a bad idea to dry the surface of ground meats. If your meat is too moist, then it can affect how it cooks. The effect is, that it will sizzle away. This will cause the meat to steam, instead of sear like you want it to.

It can be a chore to prepare super-healthy dark leafy greens. Removing all the tough stems is a chore. To make it easy, fold the leaf lengthwise and remove the stem through the middle. If you prefer, fold the leaf in half and cut out the stem using a knife. Your green is expertly relieved of its stem when you unfold the leaf again.

The perfect sandwich can make any meal amazing, and spreading the topping evenly can make every bite complete. You can’t be in a rush and just squirt it on the bread! Even distribution of mayonnaise makes each bite delicious.

For a simple way to add interest and complexity to your corn on the cob or dinner rolls, try mixing up a flavored butter. An excellent suggestion is to purchase solid cutting utensils for use in your kitchen. Sharp knives will save you time, and are actually safer to use than dull ones. Dull knives cause more cuts and accidents than sharp ones.

Try new spices regularly. Saffron is an unfamiliar spice you may want to experiment with. The benefit of saffron is that it adds a unique flavor that is not possible to achieve with any other spice. It is an herb that has been around for centuries, and still continues to be highly desired. Because it is so highly desired, it is also the most costly spice you can buy.

There is more than one way to warm a tortilla. Most people prefer to heat the tortillas directly on the rack, in a 350 degree oven. You can also place the tortilla right on top of a gas stove top burner set to a low flame. These techniques will result in a more authentic and flavorful tortilla.

After you slice fresh produce, it will start turning brown, especially with avocados, bananas, and pears. Using lemon mixed with salt water is the common way to stop this, but pineapple juice does a better job overall. A quick dip will work just fine, so there is no need to soak the fruit.
